"The Big One? How to Become Earthquake Safe in Your Home"Cedar Hills Ready!
"The Big One? How to Become Earthquake Safe in Your Home" - 7 PM, Jan 20, 2021 The BIG ONE? Will your piano rock? Your refrigerator roll? Many items we consider stable become a threat with undulation and impact earth tremors. Your cozy winter, in-house attention can generate great results for early preparation. Our goal for this meeting is to help you and your family think through what might happen in the event of a large earthquake, and how you can prepare and practice ahead of time to protect yourself and your loved ones. You will learn--in a fun, interactive format--the steps for becoming earthquake safe within your home. Join our zoom meeting on Wednesday, January 20 at 7 pm for a fun demonstration and delightful visual of ways to make your home safe. Spread the word. Invite your family and friends. We welcome everyone! Register in advance for this meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZctce-prjsrHdZhwQ8w7jQXoIH_ll5vUPYo Hi Neighbors!
It's been a while since we've connected, and it's high time we did! Did you know that September is National Preparedness Month? The pandemic is in full swing, but imagine if another disaster hit tomorrow...a big earthquake, or a fire, or a flood. Some of us have family or friends in other states who are already dealing with this type of double whammy. Are you ready? Who can you count on for help? (Clue: It's up to us, neighbors!) Join us at our first Zoom Cedar Hills Ready! meeting on Sept 23rd at 7 PM. In this program, we'll learn from a panel of your first responders what we can expect from them during a major disaster. Our panelists include representatives from the Washington County Emergency Management, Washington County Sheriff's Dept, Beaverton City Council, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, and 9-1-1. Registration is required, and space is limited to 100 participants. After our panel, you'll learn more about our Neighbor Ready! program that'll help keep you, your family, and your neighbors safe. And, you'll get access to our Get Prepared Now! booklet, which is chocked full tips and steps you can take to protect you and your family.

Be prepared, not scared. Cedar Hills Ready! Neighborhood Disaster Preparedness Team
Cedar Hills Ready! is dedicated to building neighborhood resilience and connection while preparing our community for natural disasters. We are experiencing one of the kinds of events that we have been preparing for, with the corona virus pandemic currently evolving in our state and country. The COVID-19 pandemic is presenting us with an opportunity to learn how to prepare for disasters, and practice what we preach. Cedar Hills Ready! is postponing its April 18th Quake Up! event and other public meetings until it is safe for our neighbors to congregate. In the meantime, we are shifting to electronic methods for sharing important information and working on programs to help our most vulnerable neighbors safely. We welcome your ideas and volunteers to this ongoing effort—especially now, we could use help from those with content development skills. Hello!
What would you say if I told you that you could protect yourself and your family while helping your neighbors and having fun? This is your opportunity to do that. The mission of Cedar Hills Ready! is to create caring, connected and resilient neighborhoods. We are committed to making sure every neighbor is prepared and has the best chance of survival in the event of a disaster. We are back in business after a busy summer. Like me, some of you may have family members living in California, experiencing evacuations, power outages, and fire threats. If you have loved ones in California, you know the importance of having your go bag ready to go. Learn what to include in your go bag that could make the difference surviving the next disaster, and come help us plan the next Cedar Hills Ready! programs. We are organizing a Quake Up! in Spring 2020 -- an educational event to help all of our neighbors get prepared together. In our Monday, Nov 18th, meeting at 7 PM, Trish Reading, fellow Beaverton CERT member and go bag packing expert, will show us how and what to pack in a go bag. It may include items you'd never think of! If you have a go bag, dust it off and bring it with you. Share your ideas with your neighbors. We are in this together. |

Preparedness Event
To raise awareness and educate people about disaster preparedness, we are planning a free public event. It will be broad enough to include government agency presentations, vendor displays and booths, speeches and demonstrations on disaster prep and survival topics, and activities attractive to children. The tone will be upbeat and friendly, while the focus will be to inform participants about potential disasters and the availability of information, tools, techniques and practices for their survival. It will also focus on how to connect with their neighbors in getting prepared for a disaster event.

Our Volunteers
Anybody participating to make this a successful event will have the opportunity to connect, have fun, learn a lot, and to make a difference in their life and the lives of their friends, neighbors, and church members.
We have numerous opportunities where people can get involved. More than one person can fill each role; in fact, we encourage it. People will be supported in the roles they take on. Many hands make light work—and turn work into fun.

(Beginning in 2018-19)
We are organizing. Join your neighbors with Our Communities Emergency Disaster program.
Natural disasters have been increasing over the last few decades, and people are losing their homes, neighborhoods, and lives. Cedar Hills is vulnerable to earthquakes. We need to get prepared. FEMA says emergency services will be overwhelmed in a natural disaster; they won't be able to help you for weeks, if not months. Your best prospect for survival is being prepared--individually and with neighbors. If we do nothing to prepare, you could lose it all--family, friends, pets, and home.
We can alter this predictable future as a community by preparing together with our neighbors. Come find out how to get prepared at Cedar Hills Ready!, a neighborhood event organized by neighbors and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers. This event will be a family friendly event, with activities for kids and adults alike.

Volunteers Meeting
Cedar Hills Ready! held a volunteer recruiting event at Cedar Hills United Church of Christ (CHUCC) in November 2018. It was well advertised through social media and the Homes Association of Cedar Hills Newsletter. About 40 people attended the event, including church members, neighbors, members of Community Emergency Response Team, the founder of Quake Up!, and a Beaverton City Council woman. More than half of those who attended expressed interest in volunteering.
